For Immediate Release:
New York, NY – Monday November 23, 2009 – “To define alcoholism is one thing, to fall in love with an alcoholic, is another…” From Eight Weeks of Bruce.

There are an estimated 12 million problem drinkers in the United States today. Not only are they doing irreparable damage to their own health and well being, but also to those that deeply love and care for them. Maya Contreras, relationship author (The Him Book) has tackled a formidable subject: her romantic involvement with a man possessed by alcoholism.

“This written work originally started as a love letter to Bruce. I wanted him to understand the scope and depth of our relationship, knowing his clouded memories of our time together were like a deck of disjointed Polaroid pictures instead of a cohesive rolling movie full of nuances and lush moments – due to his full time intoxication.” – Maya Contreras, excerpt “Eight Weeks of Bruce.”

Eight Weeks of Bruce uses both their copious text messages to one another and dialogue to chronicle their short time together. Maya Contreras has giving us a deeply personal look into a painful situation with loving insight and compassion.

Eight Weeks of Bruce is on sale at http://www.vicandoliver.com as an environmentally friendly e-book for any computer or the Amazon Kindle for $9.99 and on Friday, December 11, 2009 in paperback in local independent bookstores for $12.95.

Members of the press are encouraged to contact GEM for author interviews and for a complimentary copy of the book.

“Miss Maya is spectacular!!” -E. Jean Carroll “Elle Magazine.” http://www.askejean.com/

“From the moment I met Maya there was an instant spark that went off inside me which ignited my curiosity about this woman. She had a contagious laugh and an energy surrounding her that made me want to learn more. As we casually spoke, her philosophy on dating and men came up which caused me to believe that meeting her on that day, at that very moment was more than a coincidence, but faith-as I was in the infant stages of producing an interactive dating workshop for single women in New York called Cupcakes and Cupid.

That seems like such a long time ago now, and since our fateful meeting, Maya has become someone whose vitality simply cannot be measured. Her ideas are fostered with sensitivity yet laced with a quest for fun and all these qualities translate onto paper in her writing ad well. Maya Contreras is a force to be reckoned with and world, watch out!” –Nandoism “It’s Not Nirvana, It’s Nandoism.” www.nandoism.blogspot.com/

“Maya Contreras is my favorite kind of relationship writer. She’s smart, funny and always real. Unlike most chick lit writers, Maya doesn’t tell fairytales. No. She’s brave enough to write about her personal experiences and does it in a way that the reader can relate to.” – Simone Grant “Sex, Lies and Dating in the City.” www.sex-lies-dating.com/

For Immediate Release:
New York, NY – Monday November 23, 2009– “The thing is, Maya, and I should have told you this a long time ago… no man, and I mean no man, wants to be in a relationship. We just accidentally find ourselves in one,” Matthew said. – Excerpt from The Him Book: One Woman’s Almost Religious Search to Find the One.

The Him Book written by New York author Maya Contreras contemplates “Is having a committed relationship in Manhattan more difficult than locating the Holy Grail?” In New York City’s commitment-phobic dating scene.

Millions of women watched Sex In The City for Carrie Bradshaw’s relationship wit. But since the show ended, nothing as entertaining has taken its place.

That is, until now. The Him Book: One Woman’s Almost Religious Search to Find the One, which captivatingly chronicles her relationships with brutal honesty, while seeing the “tin lining” in all things, that life doesn’t end when love does.

The Him Book will be available Monday, October 19, 2009 for purchase at http://www.maya-contreras.com and http://www.vicandolivier.com as an environmentally friendly e-book for any computer or for the Amazon Kindle for $9.99 and Friday, December 11, 2009 in paperback in local independent bookstores for $14.95.

Members of the press are encouraged to contact GEM for author interviews and for a complimentary copy of the book.

As the holidays are now rolling around “Confessions” as we know it is done for the Holiday Season. We all had a smashing good time, and thank you all so much for coming down to the 310 Lounge.

I will however still be bar side on Mondays, there are still massive drink specials all night ($4 beer/wine/well, 2 for 1 margaritas & cosmos), but a new party will be launching in the beginning of the New Year, and I will write a post about it here and give you the new link.

So swing by, say hi for a happy hour drink, but most of all HAPPY HOLIDAYS! beso – Mayamaya-on-wall-2

The weekend was oddly rain swept, busy, and romance (or was it bro-mance?) was in the air.

J’adore the Fall! beso- Maya

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls on my cell phone from numbers I don’t recognize. One is a perv guy that keeps calling me and hanging up, but the rest of from folks that got my phone number from a music industry guide that keeps listing my number (even though I stopped being an agent eight months ago). Some of these people are looking for me to represent them (as I used to be a booking agent and artist manager). Others have been looking for some advice on “making it” in the industry.

First I ask them to “define” what “making it” means to them. Most of them just want to make a ton of money, and be wrapped up in fame and glory. I tell them they are in the wrong industry if that’s how they determine success. Plus they already made their first crucial mistake, they “cold called”  me.

Most every agent in the world (reputable agent) doesn’t except cold calls or unsolicited material. My first advice is to them is write good music, rehearse as much as possible, and get a local following, aka your own fan-base.

I have almost a books worth of advice on this industry…hmmm wait, should I try and publish that? or give it away? Altruistic or Materialistic? I’ll figure that out tonight when you come and join me and Leah for a drink at Confessions. Happy Hour will be extended until 10pm, and from 11-midnight we will be doing 2 for 1 margarita’s and at midnight free mandatory shots. And of course we still have $3 Milwaukee’s Best aka “The Beast”. xo- M

Sorry I have been such a slack ass with these posts lately, but if it’s a day that ends in “y” then you know that I’ve straight hustlin’ in NYC, so I’ve been a bit busy. “The Him Book” is still with my editor, and I’ve been lucky enough to have two of the most talented designers from the UK (sh*t maybe even in the US) design the book cover: Sarah King & Owen Gildersleeves (check out their website http://www.eveningtweed.com). “Nervous Breakdown: The Musical” is steadily coming together. There will be a private invite show for some friends in February to hear some of the original score written for the show (composed by Drew Nix and Tonya Abernathy) so stayed tune for that.

I’m also helping to produce and event for “Unsigned Artist” happening at the Delancey during the winter time. So forgive a girl for not being up on her blog responsibilities.

Tonight Confession is on, although it might be little abbreviated because I want everyone to be up and ready to Barack the VOTE tomorrow. If your still not sure where your polling place is go to the following websites:

http://www.canivote.org

http://maps.google.com/vote

So join me for a drink tonight, and tomorrow in the voting booth! Go-Bama!!!

Last week Confessions fell on a holiday. Leah was out, and I bravely manned the bar myself. Missing Leah’s company and my outlet for gossip, I was comforted by a few friends that came out to enjoy the abbreviated party. But tonight, with a slight chill in the air, and the days getting shorter, Leah and I are back and ready to sling some whiskey and wit (and yes, maybe even a little wisdom) your way. The drink specials are off the chain ($4 beer, wine, and well, open vodka from 11-midnight, and midnight shots), and Bobby Analog will be helming the decks.

See you tonight!
